You can test this yourself. Stand in front of a speaker, and shield you ears with your hands so the sound can only reach from behind them. How much does it effect the sound volume?

Ear trumpets dont amplify, but provides more surface area to gather more sound enegry. So sure, it would aid in their hunting to focus on the faintest of sounds, but if you were yelling in another room, their ear position would make an imperceivable difference in intensity, but enough of a difference for their brains to pick up the tiny difference to tune to ears to determine where you are yelling from and promptly ignore you.

I dont think the ear position aids in earing amplification. It aids in spatial audio positioning.

I used to work for a company that would take product pictures and create product description and data for walmart’s ecommerce site. But some big shot over at walmart decided hiring a dedicated american team to do the work was too expensive, so they decided to let the vendors directly put whatever garbage they want to put on the website. It wasnt long after that, they had to had to put a disclaimer on product descriptions that any depiction of an american flag does not mean the product is american made, because the chinese vendors couldnt give a fuck about falsifying product origin.

They use the term “server” because it harps back to the days of IRC where communities lived on a single server (or federation of servers). But your right, they should call it communities, and not servers since they’re not individually operated servers.
