Fair enough. I didn’t know about the state of the union stuff.

I mean if you believe in your own moral integrity and the work you’re doing it makes perfect sense to be willing in principle to accept billionaire money. Now I’m not saying he will or won’t be more of the same, but unless you’re a hardline leftist (which I don’t think anyone is expecting Ken Martin to be) the only correct answer to “will you accept billionaire money” is “yes”.
Okay this was true until the DNC leadership election, but the current leadership leans just left enough that they could go either way.
Actually great news, since we all know what those are used for.
The overall size of the protests was smaller than the massive April 5 demonstrations, which drew an estimated 3 million people. This was due in large part to the actions of the main organizers affiliated with the Democratic Party, who sought to sow confusion and fear among potential attendees.
Leading up to this weekend’s demonstrations, the leadership of the 50501 movement—which has been largely co-opted by the Democratic Party-aligned Political Revolution organization—tried preemptively to cancel the protests. In a blog post on April 9, the group said it was calling for a “day of action” on April 19, noting that “individual/local chapters can choose to protest if they want,” but that the national leadership was not “doing a big national push.”
Instead of protesting, 50501 organizers suggested “donating to a local organization,” “hosting a picnic,” or starting a “book club.”
On April 18, the 50501 organizers posted on social media that they had “reason to believe that events on 4/19 and/or the 50501 Movement may be misrepresented by the Trump Administration in an attempt to justify the use of military force.”
The DNC is cancer. You had a good run, 50501.
Muslim here. Mary is, in fact, not venerated in Islam in the way Catholics use the term. She’s praised in the Quran, sure, and is considered a Very Good Person, but so are many people. Islam is considered heresy in Christianity because it rejects the Trinity (according to Islam only Unitarians have the slightest clue what they’re talking about), accepts Muhammed as a prophet and rejects parts of the Bible as corrupted.
Maybe I should get into tap-dancing. More seriously fair enough I should’ve thought of that too.
Okay how about: Build houses without worrying about property values. Capitalism should have absolutely nothing to do with housing.
So that was an oversimplification; Quran 9:60 specifies the eight recipients of Zakat, and one of them is “for the sake of God”, which has been interpreted by most (but not all) scholars to refer to providing supplies and arms to non-professional (conscripted or volunteer) soldiers during Jihad. Some scholars have been more expansive of their interpretation of this, but that’s the majority opinion. This might seem out of place, which is fair but consider a situation where a Muslim state has to go to war but doesn’t have the funds to raise an army and as a result loses territory. As far as I understand it’s basically a wartime “oh shit” button.
Or you can… Build more houses. It’s not that complicated.
That’s great. Maybe the information leaks and some poor Yemeni gets to run to safety once.
“Can’t easily go to Jerusalem” is only one part of the article, and that aside it’s an egregious attack on Palestinian freedom of movement so not really overdramatic. Israel has been doing much flashier things lately so I get your instinct to dismiss this, but this attitude is part of why Israel has gotten away with its crimes for so long; the world only pays attention to the plight of Palestinians when they’re being blown to bits by Israeli airstrikes and then forgets about them when the planes (mostly) stop flying. This article does a good job of highlighting the quieter parts of Israeli oppression IMO.
An ethnostate is a state made explicitly for one ethnicity that prioritizes that ethnicity over others. The most glaring examples of this are Israel and Apartheid South Africa, but it’s a thing to a much smaller extent in Japan for example. Also note that most European countries do in fact have plenty of native ethnicities; they all just happen to be white. The most obvious example is probably Jews, but there are many others.
It seems 23% of boys aged 13-15 have a positive opinion of him, as opposed to 53% who have a negative opinion. That’s a majority who hate him to be sure, but not an overwhelming majority. Also note that support for Andrew Tate is higher among young adults than teenagers who haven’t even entered highschool. 27% of British men aged 18-29 have a positive view of Andrew Tates, while 35% agree with “the sort of thing Andrew Tates would say”. He’s liked by a significant minority of his major audience (male teenagers and young/young-ish adults).
Wow. It takes a special (in a bad way) sort of person to see an article about a guy who died in the place of another person in the Holocaust and go “ew, religion”.
Okay maybe a majority, but “overwhelming majority”? No way. There are a lot of incels in America.
Edit: I somehow managed to forget that the article is about Britain.
“We live in a society where foreign alien terrorists have unlimited free legal representation,” Stephen Miller posted.
Yes, that’s exactly the point.
It’s just how Zakat is structured in Islam. “Tax” would also work, but Zakat is specifically earmarked for social welfare (and military uses) so obligatory charity captures the nuance better I think.
I mean Zionism’s core tenet is literally Make Israel Great Again so that’s probably not a coincidence. Interfascist solidarity also counts for a lot here.
Surprising nobody.
