  • This is a long way off, at least in Australia. Probably not for any good reason though.

Any time you propose some sort of citizen ID number scheme nutters start talking about “the mark of the beast”. It’s a biblical thing in which someone envisaged a dystopia in which everyone had an identifying mark on their forehead.

In Australia for example there was a lot of resistance to everyone being assigned a tax id number in the 80s. The law is still structured around this cultural anxiety to this day. For example, you can’t be forced by law to provide your tax id number, and every different government agency will assign you their own number.

Biometrics have their own problems. An iris scan or finger print might be ok, but I would be extraordinarily reluctant to provide my DNA to anyone under any circumstances.

  • They’re gonna take his license right?

I mean this is very clearly a breach of the hippocratic oath, surely.

As an aside, I’ve recently had more interactions with the medical fraternity than I would care to due to chronic illness in our family.

I’ve seen time and again that Doctors are not superior to any other profession. They specific areas of expertise just like anyone else, and within that area they follow established guidelines.

The unusual thing is the amount of study they need to complete to receive a “Doctorate”. Doing more study doesn’t make you more smart, it usually just means that you have the opportunity to spend a decade of your life pursuing academic achievements, which most people do not.

  • Well, anytime someone says “small government” what they really mean is outsourcing.

While I’m sure there will be a lot of that, I don’t think that is “the plan”.

Trump campaigned by saying he would be mean to immigrants, cut government services, and implement tariffs.

He got elected, so he’s doing those three things.

Additionally, for all intents and purposes he’s the king of the US, so he can do these things in such a way as to maximise offence to the left because he finds it gratifying how powerless we are to prevent him.

In short, there is no plan other than gratifying Trump each day.

  • Ok so everyone is entitled to basic rights, but if you’re a Trump voter my sympathy gets turned way the fuck down.

If I’m reading the article correctly, the guy suffers from high blood pressure and as such he should avoid excessive stress. He asked for medical treatment but when told that he would be under guard at the hospital and then returned to detention for questioning after he recovered he declined treatment.

I’m not a doctor but my understanding of high blood pressure as a chronic illness is that it’s a long term game. High pressure on your arteries and heart over many years increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. It’s less relevant as a short term problem.

To point out the obvious, this guy was very happy for Trump to be mean to everyone else, just didn’t think he was included.
